It was in 1994 that Sh. Gautam R Morarka first
founded a charity organization to serve the people at the grassroots
level in Uttar Pradesh. With a passion to help people, he started
project after project to ensure that their basic problems are taken care
of and they don’t suffer due to lack of essential facilities and
services. After working for about a decade in Uttar Pradesh, he expanded
the scope of his social service activities to Rajasthan.
He was always concerned about the developmental
problems, infrastructural bottlenecks and lack of fundamental
necessities in the desert state, however, his industrial and business
compulsions didn’t allow him to spend more time in Rajasthan at that
time. The region was clear; he was setting up his plant in Bijnor at
that time that kept him constantly engaged. About a decade later, when
his industrial compulsions eased a little, Sh. Morarka visited Jhunjhunu
district in Rajasthan, the land where his forefathers belonged to; the
land he himself is deeply attached emotionally with; the land with which
he has a strong traditional, familial bond.
With
the help of three charity organizations he runs, Sh. Gautam Morarka
started working on the ground in Jhunjhunu, making Nawalgarh the central
point to run social service activities. R R Morarka Charitable Trust and
its branch Sewajyoti, which has now become even larger than the parent
trust in size, impact and image deployed their die-hard volunteers in
the area with a sole objective of helping people move ahead. Development
was the goal and clearing the way for a better future was the first
strategic objective in this regard. The process, obviously, had to begin
with education; a trait that makes communities knowledgeable, aware,
informed, more capable and confident.

He took initiative to build a
massive building for the government college in Jhunjhunu, which was
earlier run from just four rooms. Spending Rs. 2.45 crore in the first
and 53 lakh in the second phase, Sewajyoti and R R Morarka Charitable
Trust completely metamorphosed the college building which now comes
across as a fascinating site resembling palace of Jaipur.
More than 1500 students receive education in a
modern, well-equipped, technology-enabled atmosphere and come out with
an impressive performance in the university exams every year. The hugely
popular government college, known as Shri Radheshyam R Morarka Govt Post
Graduate College, gets regular headlines in the media and has acquired
reputation that envies even the privately run colleges. It is today, one
of the most sought after educational institutions in the district.
Though he never expected anything in return for his
efforts in the education sector, Sh. Gautam R Morarka was pleasantly
surprised when the government of Rajasthan announced his name for the
prestigious ‘Bhamashah Award’ in year 2006. People say, history
repeats itself. In year 2011 too, he was chosen for the coveted honour.
Acceping the award with grace and humility, he feels such awards are
important as they recognize individual efforts of dedicated people in
serving the society. This, in turn, should inspire others sparking a
very positive, very meaningful chain reaction for the larger benefit of
the society.
Bhamashah Award is founded in the memory of
historical figure Bhama Shah who gave away all his wealth to Maharana
Pratap so that he can build a formidable army to take on King Akbar.
Bhama Shah’s spirit of patriotism is one of the most shining examples
of commitment to the nation in our history. Sewajyoti salutes this
spirit and has resolved to follow his ideals in a modern day world.
Sh. Gautam Morarka has also received an important recognition from
the central government in the way of being nominated to independently
review the progress and implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural
Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in one district of Rajasthan.
Considering the impact MGNREGS is making to the rural India, this is a
significant responsibility. |
