For any society, awareness on health, gender
issues, women’s rights, child issues, protection of girl child,
literacy, environment, nationalism, social reforms and other such issues
of national importance is necessary. The issue of awareness often
appears insignificant, small and quickly achievable but in practical
terms it is an uphill task to achieve since it has a direct relation
with the level of literacy and economic conditions prevailing in the
area concerned. Sewajyoti extensively runs awareness programmes in and
around Nawalgarh as we believe that only an informed and aware society
can ensure successful implementation of programmes and schemes.
Sewajyoti’s awareness programmes cover various
fields including social reforms, environment protection, mother and
child, health, nutrition and other issues of national importance as and
when the need arises. Our volunteers spread the message of rural
development, communal harmony, land reforms, literacy and hygiene, and
try to build opinion against child labour, corruption, violence against
women and other social evils.
 On
International Womens Day (8 March) every year, Sewajyoti organizes a
function to honour successful women who have set an example for others.
Women making significant contribution in the fields of education,
health, professional upliftment and social service are honored with
felicitation letters and memorabilia. Women from rural areas come in
large numbers to attend this programme. The event is extensively covered
in the media and never pass without creating a positive impact. Cultural
troops and folk artists are also involved during some of the awareness
campaigns in order to make the entire experience interesting and
appealing.
Sewajyoti had organized a campaign under its
‘Beti Bachao Andolan’ (Save the girl child movement). Hundreds of
people marched to highlight the problem of female infanticide and
express their solidarity with the cause. They resolved to treat their
daughters in the same manner as their sons and to pay due attention to
their education, health, nutrition and development.
Narbada Devi Morarka Charitable Trust, an
associated organization of Sewajyoti, had also constituted women’s
groups named Mahila Mandals in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh where
regular meetings are conducted to educated women on issues such as
health, education and nutrition. |
